Overview
DragonCrash is a Battle Arena Treasure Hunt (BATH) game, where players enter a futuristic battle arena and play king-of-the-hill to be the last one standing. Players control genetically modified dragons with different powers to collect gems for power-ups and fight to control the goal post to win.
This is my senior capstone project at the University of California, Santa Cruz. At the Sammy Awards 2017, we were awarded an honorable mention for “Most Guts” for persevering to complete an online multiplayer game by the Sammy Showcase, despite having to switch to Unreal Engine 4 after four weeks of development in the new experimental Amazon Lumberyard game engine.
I was one of the game designers for DragonCrash. I was in charge of scripting most of the powerups and UI. I was also in charge of making and running our playtesting sessions. I told my playtesters to play a few matches with each other and use different dragons every few rounds. I observed my playtesters fight it out with each other to see how powerful each dragon is, the dynamic between each dragon, and how powerful is each powerup.
